Estepona Old Town – Centro Historico

Our Estepona Holiday Apartment is located just 5 minutes drive from the Historic Old Town of Estepona. The San Luis Castle (Castillo de San Luis) was built in the 15th century by Queen Isabella I in order to protect the town from Moorish invaders. The narrow streets and one-storey homes were built a few centuries later, between the 18th and 19th centuries. Up until the 1950’s many of them did not have running water or plumbing.

The town hall (Ayuntamiento) of Estepona has been improving and renewing many of the, over 100, cobble stoned streets of the town and have even provided most of them with their own uniquely coloured plant pots and flowers.

Estepona is not known for its “night club” culture that can be found in other areas of the costa del sol, instead focuses on dining and cafe/bar lifestyle.

Many of the restaurants and bars can be found on or near the seafront, with many of the restaurants selecting some of the locally caught fresh fish as their favoured dishes. Most of the restaurants and bars have terraces, giving you the opportunity to eat outside during the hot summer nights.

Plaza de las Flores (Flower Square) can be found just off the main shopping street of Calle Real and has a number of different style restaurants and cafes where you can sit and enjoy the Summer evenings. The tourist information can also be found here.

Calle Real is the main shopping street with a number of small to medium sized shops. If you are looking for more commercial shopping it is best to head to La Cañada in Marbella. Every Wednesday Estepona is home to the local market that can be found at the Parque de los Niños, where you can find everything from locally grown produce to clothing
